Making
Students Safer

In 2017, a student at King Middle School wrote a letter to the Mayor of the City of Kankakee. He expressed his concerns about student and crossing guard safety while crossing IL Route 17 (Court Street). Meanwhile, along the frontage of the school, both crossing guards and students were using an unsafe walkway everyday. Then, the City of Kankakee enlisted us as the civil engineering firm to write a grant application to IDOT’s Safe Routes to School (SRTS) grant program for proposed safety improvements. The improvements included a raised median, sidewalk improvements and flashing yellow beacons, to name a few.
