Construction Observer III

The Construction Observer III is responsible for the successful completion of construction projects. This position is responsible for understanding site engineering plans and project specifications, construction quality assurance, field quantity measurements and project documentation including written and photos. The Construction Observer III will serve as the onsite representative for the observation of contractor construction activities, including daily coordination with the contractor and other entities and the recommendation of acceptance of completed work.

Essential Skills & Abilities

  • Analyze site engineering plans and project specifications to monitor construction activities for compliance.
  • Perform observation of construction work for compliance with site engineering plans and contract documents.
  • Document field quantities of completed work.
  • Administer change order and/or force account work and documentation related thereto.
  • Complete Inspector’s Daily Reports (IDRs) and other applicable documentation required for completed work.
  • Take daily progress photos.
  • Document any quality related issues and communicate with the responsible Project Engineer.
  • Good interpersonal skills to ensure good communication with contractors, engineers and other colleagues.
  • Ability to perform layout tasks and field verify elevations and slopes.
  • Ability to use digital laser levels in order to check hubs, and staked grades in the field.
  • Experience with Federal (FHWA) and State (IDOT) construction projects.
  • Familiarity with Federal (FHWA) and State (IDOT) material and documentation requirements.
  • Have the ability to submit monthly contract pay estimates, weekly RE progress reports based on the work completed and billed by the contractor.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or Engineering preferred
  • A minimum of 10+ years of construction and/or construction observation experience
  • IDOT Documentation of Contract Quantities Certification preferred, or ability to obtain within 12 months.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Knowledge and experience working with CAD programs a plus. Company

CAD Technician II

Piggush Engineering is a full-service Civil Engineering firm that provides a wide range of civil infrastructure projects, construction management, and land surveying services to its clients. This includes, but not limited to, municipal engineering projects, roadway & transportation projects, site engineering & detention design, water & wastewater systems design, and land surveying record documents. We have an exciting opportunity to hire and add to our team a talented CAD Technician. At Piggush Engineering the computer aided design (CAD) Technician II will work directly with project engineers and land surveyors to create and complete a detailed visual representation of any given project. They will use CAD software to draft conceptual schematic designs, exhibits, surveys, permit documentation, fully constructible site engineering design plans, and/or roadway construction plans. Plans shall include site geometrics, relevant annotation & dimensioning, existing and proposed surface models, earthwork analysis, roadway corridors, profiles, cross sections and relevant construction details with appropriate industry standards and regulatory requirements applied. To ensure success as a CAD Technician II at Piggush Engineering, you should have an extensive working experience with CAD software, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to work well as part of a team. You will be responsible for meeting with project engineers, surveyors, and the drafting team to transform the client’s requests and designs into real-world civil engineering construction plans utilizing various CAD software. The CAD technician will be responsible for creating multi-dimensional dynamic models to ensure a high-quality set of construction plans based on verbal and written information. Accuracy and attention to detail are essential.

CAD Technician II Responsibilities

  • Meet with Engineers, surveyors, & other colleagues to review plans and design drawings.
  • Work with a design team and/or individually on CAD projects.
  • Research and utilize industry standards and codes to develop plans.
  • Input design specifications into the CAD software.
  • Create site geometrics, relevant annotation & dimensioning, existing and proposed surface models, earthwork analysis, roadway corridors, profiles, and cross sections in accordance with client specifications using CAD software.
  • Develop accurate layouts, assembly drawings and details.
  • Conduct final model rendering and delivering the final product.
  • Have a willingness to learn and adapt to changes in software and drafting methods in our everchanging field.
  • Take initiative in researching new ideas and ways of doing things and constantly work on technical and personal work skills through a talent development program.
  • Utilize interpersonal skills to ensure good communication with the entire team.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 3 to 5 years of experience using AutoCAD or MicroStation products
  • Associates Degree or certification in CAD Drafting
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook…etc.)
  • Strong written, oral, and graphical presentation skills
  • Firm grasp of geometric concepts and Mathematics
  • Independent problem-solver and decision maker
  • Be flexible and collaborative with others to problem solve

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Experience using Bentley MicroStation (Power GEOPAK / OpenRoads)
  • Knowledge in current IDOT CAD standards
  • Knowledge in Land Surveying Documentation
  • Knowledge in Civil Site Design and/or Roadway Design
  • Cogo Point Analysis
  • Surface Modeling
  • Feature Line Grading
  • Profile and Cross Section Generation
  • Earthwork volume Analysis
  • Experience in GIS systems

Civil Engineering - Project Engineer III

Piggush Engineering is a full-service Civil Engineering firm that provides a wide range of civil infrastructure projects, construction management, and land surveying services to its clients. This includes, but not limited to, municipal engineering projects, roadway & transportation projects, site engineering & detention design, water & wastewater systems design, and land surveying record documents. Under the leadership of the Principal Engineer, the Project Engineer III will work with a team of engineers to design and develop site grading and drainage plans, stormwater detention design and modeling, subdivision design, water and sewer system utility design, generation of flood study models and reports, and roadway improvements as well as provide project coordination and construction administration support.

Essential Skills & Abilities

  • Lead the planning, design, and permitting of various site design and roadway projects.
  • Manage a team of engineers ensuring work is evenly distributed and deadlines are met.
  • Work independently on design and production of construction plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, project team, subconsultants, and regulatory agencies, including but not limited to, attending meetings, and providing ongoing written and verbal communication.
  • Direct and review production of drawings by CAD technicians and design engineers.
  • Act as liaison with client, contractors, or others directly on a variety of projects, assisting with required coordination and problem solving between all parties.
  • Adaptive and ambitious personality which will work well in team situations as well as have the ability to work and adapt to situations as an individual.
